When I first pulled onto the property of Withy Hollow Flower Farm, I felt like I was transported into a quieter, simpler time. Ducks roamed the property; the air was quiet. A hint of rain hung in the atmosphere, and the flowers softly moved in the summer breeze. It was the perfect setting for Ashley and Marc’s small wedding, surrounded only by the most important and meaningful souls. They celebrated as they wanted to celebrate - simply and easily, with the only overarching emotion being the love between the two of them. No stress. No worries. Just love.
THE COUPLE
Ashley and Marc were originally planning a microwedding for June 2020, but the pandemic derailed those plans. We kept in touch during the few years after, and I was delighted when they decided to get married on a little flower farm in what felt like the middle of nowhere. Withy Hollow Flower Farm suited Ashley and Marc perfectly, with its quietness and simplicity. There was nothing contrived about their wedding day, including and especially the venue.
Ashley and Marc are very much their own people. When they first inquired, they shared, “Why we're awesome: For the last four years we've been eating Taco Bell and watching House Hunters on every Valentine's Day and anniversary.” Ashley wore a purple gown she loved instead of anything white. Marc set up his own cameras to record their ceremony. They had no issues when a random downpour paused their wedding timeline for half an hour. Ashley and Marc’s wedding day felt easy because they allowed it to flow - without worrying about anything except celebrating with each other.
THE VENUE
Withy Hollow Flower Farm doesn’t necessarily consider or bill itself as a wedding venue, although it does hold events on the property; it is primarily advertised as a pick-your-own flower farm. On Ashley and Marc’s wedding day, we had full access to the entire property for hosting guests and for taking photos - we didn’t have to worry about the general public stopping by, or other venue patrons playing an unexpected part in the day. Ashley and Marc rented an RV to get ready in, set up a long table for dinner in the not-quite-finished greenhouse, and got married in front of the trellis leading into one of the gardens.
THE DETAILS
The details that were the most important to Ashley and Marc were the homemade and home-brought elements. Ashley had spent months meticulously collecting antique glass and dinnerware to decorate the reception table, and pressed flowers in frames to act as place cards. She even made one for me, which I still have in my office, and smile whenever I look at it, remembering this beautiful and sweet day.
Color played a big part in Ashley and Marc’s wedding day, as they leaned into the aesthetic of getting married on a flower farm. They used colorful decor, and also didn’t shy away from wearing color themselves - Ashley wearing a purple dress with sky blue shoes, and Marc wearing a deep blue suit.
THE RECEPTION
Ashley and Marc’s reception was more a celebration dinner than anything else, although they did share toasts and a first dance. It got dark as we enjoyed our time together in the greenhouse, which gave their dance photos almost a mystical quality.
Ashley and Marc are two of the kindest and smartest people I know. They’re wonderful in every possible way, and their wedding day was a perfect reflection of how truly darling they are.
FROM THE COUPLE
“Erica is the BEST! We contacted her about photographing our wedding in February 2020, right before the world shut down. She was so helpful and patient as we navigated wedding planning during a pandemic. From e-mails to Zoom meetings to postponements and rescheduling and several venue changes, she was there for us the whole way! It was such a comfort to know that even if everything else fell through, we could still count on her for beautiful photographs, wherever/whenever we ended up getting married!
Our photos arrived earlier than we expected, and they are STUNNING! We can't stop looking at them and can't decide which ones we want to get printed because they are all so beautiful. We ended up getting married on a gorgeous but bathroomless flower farm and got ready in an ugly rented RV. Somehow even that ugly RV looks beautiful in the getting ready photos! Seriously!
Erica is so sweet and joyful, and we are SO glad that she was there to capture every moment of our wedding day for us. Posing for photos can be so awkward, but she made us feel at ease. It was so much fun! We were laughing and smiling the whole time! She had so many great ideas for poses and was open to our suggestions as well. We are literally obsessed with all of our photos!
Her professionalism, talent, kindness, and creativity is matched by none. We are not exaggerating at all when we say we were blown away by her every step of the way. No regrets in hiring her at all. You NEED to work with Erica for your upcoming special event. It will be the best decision you make!”
