Indian Ridge Wedding // Maggie + Alex

Meeting Maggie and Alex in preparation for their Indian Ridge wedding a few years ago was nothing short of a delight. They are two of the funniest, happy-go-lucky people I’ve ever met - easily able to roll with the punches and get the most out of life.

THE COUPLE

Maggie and Alex met in high school through theatre and fencing (how cool?!), and even before their wedding, already acted like they had been married in the funniest and most endearing of ways. They roll their eyes at each other’s jokes, but are good sports for anything fun or humorous. They keep albums of each other’s least flattering photos (hilarious, I know). They play video games, and are outdoorsy together, often prioritizing in the moment what will give them the most amount of time spent together. They are best friends.

THE VENUE

Indian Ridge is a newer Hudson Valley wedding venue, tucked into a neighborhood in Highland, NY, directly across the Mid-Hudson Bridge from Poughkeepsie. The land here is sprawling, and you have to drive along a dirt path for a little while to come upon the venue itself, situated between a flower field and a grazing pasture for the cows on site. The location boasts a beautiful, new barn to host the reception, and the ability to set up your ceremony wherever you would like outside, with most people choosing the space directly overlooking the pond onsite.

One of the nicest aspects of getting married at Indian Ridge is that the owner will drive you to various photo locations on the property (which is especially helpful because the space is so vast!), and while doing so, will share about some of the history of the property. He is overwhelmingly kind and accommodating, which feels like such a wonderful personal touch to getting married there.

THE DETAILS

Maggie is Irish, so she infused as many nods towards her heritage as possible throughout the wedding day, choosing to style her hair in a manner reminiscent of Celtic women warriors who fought alongside men in battle, gifting their wedding party with Irish drinking horns, and choosing a deep shade of green for the wedding party to wear.

This is a niche detail, but I complimented Maggie on the beautiful, rich red color of her hair, and she shared with me that she dyes it with henna - how amazing!

THE RECEPTION

I LOVED (like, loved loved loved) Maggie and Alex’s reception. Once the dance floor opened, it felt like they could finally let loose and fully enjoy their celebration. They laughed, hugged, and scream-sang for hours, and it was the most exciting thing to witness and document.

Maggie and Alex, photographing your wedding day was everything good, exhilarating, and celebratory. Thank you for having me there. I just love ya.

FROM THE COUPLE
