The first time I met Christina + Jonny in person was at their engagement session - Christina clad in an adorable floral dress and Jonny smiling wide. They had their precious pup Murphy in tow, and the trio instantly had my heart.
When I reminisce on Christina + Jonny's wedding day, all I can remember are smiles. They’re both great smilers - always happy, always joyful, always looking on the bright side. We couldn’t have taken those smiles from them on their wedding day, especially, even if we had tried.
THE COUPLE
Christina + Jonny got ready together on the morning of their wedding (which was also Christina’s birthday). Although they didn’t see each other in their full garb until their first look, the fact that they were dialoguing and spending time with each other when I walked into the getting-ready suite at the castle warmed my heart. I hadn’t seen it happen before, but I was instantly bought in. Being with each other is like second nature to them - so why wouldn’t they spend the actual morning of their wedding together?
To enjoy their time prior to their first look, after hair and makeup was done, and slightly before Christina put on her dress, everyone played a round of Uno together. It was such a beautifully enjoyable and laid-back way to start a wedding day.
THE WEDDING PARTY
Christina + Johnny’s wedding party were fun, funny, and kind. They wore blue hues with coral accents, and were an absolute joy to be around.
(I wasn’t surprised, considering how joyful Christina + Jonny are - it only made sense that their friends and family were the same).
THE VENUE
You’ve heard me gush about Whitby Castle before, but I’m happy to do it again. Whitby is truly one of the most enjoyable places to host a wedding. The staff is phenomenal, the grounds are beautiful, and where else in the Westchester, NY area are you going to be able to hold your ceremony with an actual castle as your backdrop?
In addition to all of the medieval trappings of the castle itself, there is also a gorgeous willow tree on the grounds of the venue, which is ideal for taking private, romantic, and whimsical photographs - especially when it is as lush and green as it is in the summer months.
THE DETAILS
My clients are always intentional with their wedding planning choices - and Christina + Jonny were no exception. Christina wore her mother’s altered wedding gown (with a bridal cape that she made herself). They shared a version of the Chinese tea ceremony during the their wedding ceremony. Their entire day offered nods towards video games, board games, and sci fi - all things that are important to the couple.
THE RECEPTION
The reception was truly beautiful, and the dancing didn’t stop. It was so enjoyable to photograph, and so fun to witness. And, towards the end of the night, Christina changed into a traditional Chinese gown, which offered such a beautiful full-circle moment from the tea ceremony to the end of the night.
When I think back on some of my very favorite wedding days, Christina + Jonny’s makes the list. And it’s pretty high up there, if I’m honest. 💕
