What can I really say about this Catskills Airbnb microwedding that properly encapsulates how perfect of a day it truly was? How do I talk about the view from the property, encased in fog and mist? How do I describe the grandma dancing on an outdoor dancefloor, wearing a bright pink raincoat, completely enraptured in her joy? How do I share about Amy and Gus’ first look under string lights that hadn’t been turned on yet, but still dressed up the scene like stars? How do I express how absolutely darling Amy’s mom was - a mom that seemed like a gift to grow up with?
How does one describe memories, moments, scenes that make one feel like they have just positively turned into the heart-eye emoji?
I probably can’t. But I’ll try, below.
THE COUPLE
Amy and Gus felt like old friends as soon as I did a consultation call with them. They seemed fun and adventurous and intelligent and open. They were warm and kind and funny. They loved dogs (the ultimate green flag). They lived in California because…why not?
On their wedding day, they loved their people hard, and their people loved them back, and they felt like the core of a very special unit. As their photographer, I felt like I was being let into something special and sacred, and when I think back on their wedding day, the most vivid thing I remember is the tears that everyone shed during their ceremony.
I think that says something.
I think that says a lot.
THE VENUE
Amy and Gus got married at a gorgeous Airbnb in the Catskills of New York. They got ready in the main house on the property, hosted an intimate dinner on the covered porch, and danced on a rented dance floor that they brought in and decorated with string lights (Amy’s vision). It was all so intimate and special - like spending a day with friends you don’t realize is significant until years later. It felt like reminiscence and nostalgia even as the moments were happening.
THE DETAILS
Amy and Gus didn’t have many specific details except for a few small special trinkets and items that we photographed at the beginning of the day. Their people wore what their people wore. The venue was what the venue was. A bouquet wasn’t procured until later in the day, but umbrellas were at the ready if it were to rain. Gus wore a bow tie. Amy wore a bow on the back of her dress.
THE RECEPTION
COVID changed this dear couple’s original wedding plans, but I don’t think anyone felt like they missed out. The entire group spent a long time on the dance floor, with the backdrop not being a the wall of a venue, but the fog-covered mountains. It wasn’t a fairytale, but it was a beautiful story. And I liked that. I liked that a lot.
Amy and Gus, I think of you and your wedding day often. I was SO excited to write this blog just to relive your day again. Your day felt vibrant. It is bright in my memories. As are you. 💛
FROM THE COUPLE
“Erica was kind and joyous from our first time meeting her all the way through our wedding day. She was a pleasure to work and took the time to make us feel extra special with regular check-ins, little gifts leading up to our day and making sure to capture our entire day in a beautiful and authentic way. We have only seen a preview of our pictures but they definitely captured our personalities and the essence of our day. We are super excited to see the rest of them and have already enjoyed sharing the pictures from our special day with our family and friends!”
