I don’t even know if I can express how special, monumentous, and serendipitous it felt (still feels) to have gotten to know Sarah and Joe throughout their wedding journey. They are such gifts to me - I don’t really know how to best put it into words. If I try really hard with words that don’t quite convey what I want to say, but maybe do a little bit, I can tell you that their souls feel sparkly, and their combined presence feels warm. I feel both smarter and more compassionate when I’m around them. They make me want to be a better person. Their generosity of spirit inspires mine. They are top tier, cream of the crop people. I am still in awe that they are in my corner. I am still in awe that I get to be in theirs.
THE COUPLE
Sarah and Joe met during their senior year at Union College (where we got to photograph their engagement session - such a gorgeous campus!), and then dated long distance for a while before moving to DC and then NY together. I admire them oh, so much. They are environmentally and politically active; keenly aware of what is going on in the world. They are serious about people and the world we inhabit, but not too serious together - Joe is able to make Sarah laugh like no other.
We took a few photos outside towards the end of their wedding day, and as Sarah was leaning back into Joe’s embrace, all I could think was that she was so comfortable, and he was so wonderful, and the two of them fit together so well in more than just their hug - they fit like puzzle pieces alongside each other’s souls.
THE VENUE
Sarah and Joe got married at a venue that is now closing, FEAST at Round Hill. My favorite part of weddings here has always been the outdoor ceremony space, and the open field that we have been able to use for portraits. Something about an open-air celebration of love feels so sweet and inspiring.
THE DETAILS
Getting married in October, Sarah and Joe chose vibrant colors to accentuate their wedding - bright florals and colorful invitations. Color was incorporated everywhere, which I always personally feel makes a wedding seem just a little bit more celebratory. I was also pretty obsessed with Sarah and Joe’s parents. They were funny and quirky, and everything that parents should be. I know it’s weird to consider parents to be a part of the detail list on a wedding day, but the way that some parents add to the atmosphere of a wedding makes me feel like they should be recognized here. Both of their sets of parents were super enjoyable to spend time with, but their wonderfulness was especially felt when we witnessed the way that Sarah’s dad looked at her when he first saw her in her wedding gown - chef’s kiss. He ushered in all of the best vibes for the best day.
THE RECEPTION
For the reception, Sarah changed out of her wedding gown into a bridal jumpsuit and sneakers. Applause all around because we should all be as comfy as possible every single day - including wedding days. She, Joe, and their most darling family and friends danced the night away, and their joy was transferable - I felt it personally as I clicked the shutter button every time.
After the wedding, Sarah and Joe sent me a gift: a candle from a small business with the title “Big Hoop Energy: Smells like Selena rocking the Astrodome, Cardi slaying the MET Gala, AOC speaking up in Congress, and you - crushing your goals.” While I keep other candles in my linen closet, this candle lives proudly on my windowsill where I can see it every day. Remembering Sarah, Joe, and how important and impactful their wedding day was is something I never want to lose sight of.
Sarah and Joe, I love you immensely and always. You are top tier.
PS: You can buy this candle from Casita Candles HERE. Highly recommend.
FROM THE COUPLE
“Dearest Erica, is this a love letter to you or for future clients? Mine might be both ;) You are doing everything right! Yes yes yes!
I found Erica's work on social media, and there was something right away that drew me in. When initially consulting with Erica, I'm pretty sure there was a line in her email that she looked forward to being friends. I will admit - I rolled my eyes - who becomes friends with their wedding vendors? I quickly learned that you become friends with your vendors when they are people like Erica, who is genuinely kind, caring, and wants to make your day the best one possible.
Erica is extremely organized - she was always the vendor reaching out regarding timelines and coordination to make sure that everything ran smoothly the day of. Our family and friends absolutely loved her the day-of; she makes the day fun and comfortable for all involved, and is calm amidst all the activity.
Erica's photos speak for themselves - they are beautiful, heartwarming, and capture intimate details and emotions from the day. Everyone who has seen our photos has commented on how incredible they are and how amazing our photographer was. But truly when you hire Erica as your photographer you are gaining more than just a service provided for your wedding, you are gaining a cherished friend. Thank you so much, Erica! We love you!”
