The Ultimate Guide to the Best Hudson Valley Wedding Venues

When I first moved to the Hudson Valley over 10 years ago now, I had no idea how popular of a wedding destination it was - but I totally understand it now. The Hudson Valley has all of the charm of quiet suburbia  with all of the amenities of urban life and easy access between the New York City and the Upstate NY region. It’s a great spot to get married - I know, because I’ve been photographing weddings here for over a decade now. 😉

Below, I’ve compiled a list of the best (and my favorite) Hudson Valley wedding venues that I’ve had the pleasure of photographing at over the years to help you plan your own Hudson Valley wedding.

Rustic Hudson Valley Wedding Venues

Hollow Brook Golf Club

Cortlandt, NY

Hollow Brook Golf Club is one of my very favorite Hudson Valley wedding venues. It’s right on the border of the Hudson Valley and Westchester, which makes it easy for guests to travel to. The staff at this venue is phenomenal, and treat each client like they are truly cared for. At every wedding I have photographed there, everyone has raved about how wonderful the venue is - from the setting to the food to the service, it’s one-of-a-kind.

Hollow Brook is unique in that, although it is a golf club, it has more of a rustic, homey vibe than a traditional golf club venue. The reception room features beautiful dark wood walls, but also has ample natural light from its large windows. For photo ops, the staff will drive you out onto the golf course, which hosts multiple unique locations for photos - the stream, bridges, high overlooks, and overgrown sections of the course are usually the most popular for couple portraits.

Rustic Ridge View Farm

Kerhonkson, NY

Rustic Ridge View Farm is one of the best kept secrets in the Hudson Valley. The property feels like every idyllic location you’ve ever drooled over on Instagram or in cozy books. There is no barn for wedding use on the property, but it IS a horse farm, and the owner, Wally, is one of the best cheerleaders to have with you on a wedding day. The ceremony site overlooks the mountains, and the reception pavilion is large and open-air. While the property is not huge, you still have plenty of photo ops - some of my favorites are anywhere you can find the horses, the grove behind the ceremony space, and the open field overlooking the mountains. You need to bring most vendors into this location to make it work for your wedding, but it is well, well, well worth it.

The Preston Barn

Dover Plains, NY

The Preston Barn is a gorgeous property nestled in a neighborhood in Dover Plains, NY. The location originally only hosted a restaurant and inn called the Old Drovers Inn (which is still in operation); the barn is a newer addition to the property, having been built more recently to accommodate weddings. One of the nicest features of hosting a wedding at the Preston Barn is that you and some of your guests can stay on site in the Old Drovers Inn and the Carriage House for your wedding weekend. Additionally, because the barn was built specifically for weddings, it feels like a barn, but doesn’t operate like a barn - it is heated and air conditioned, has running water, features a built-in bar, and is set up for in-house catering. If you are looking for a barn venue that can do it all, this is the place for you.

Ryan Family Farm

Lagrangeville, NY

The Ryan Family Farm is truly a hidden gem in the Hudson Valley, but is one of the most beautiful and functional rustic wedding venues you could hope to find. Boasting an indoor barn reception space that holds up to 160 guests and acres of gorgeous property to use for your portraits, this venue is everything you could hope for in a rustic venue. Taking good care of couples is the biggest core value of this venue’s team, and it shows in every amenity offered. The barn is both heated and air conditioned, and is also ADA compliant - all huge benefits! Additionally, the property has lodging for up to 16 guests, if you would like to make a weekend celebration out of your big day!

Hudson Valley Weddings at the Hill

Hudson, NY

Hudson Valley Weddings at the Hill is one of the most beautiful barns I have ever laid eyes on. It was a working barn at some point in the past, but the way that it has been painted in recent years really makes it really special. At this venue, you are able to take a short walk from the adorable wedding suite right into your ceremony space - a ceremony space that allows for the most beautiful backdrop of mountains and trees. While the outside of the barn is chic, the inside is definitely a barn, and so if you want that rustic feeling for your reception, you’ll get it! As a kind note, there is no air conditioning at this location, and the reception space is on the second floor, so summer weddings here can be on the warmer side - but nobody notices that when they’re on the dancefloor. 🥰 The venue location is also close to the city of Hudson, NY, a fun place for your guests to enjoy a weekend.

Pleasantly Devine Stables

Rock Tavern, NY

Pleasantly Devine Stables is one of those rarest of venues where the staff and ownership are just as lovely and special as the property they manage. The owner of this venue is often the on-site coordinator for weddings, and she is one of the most efficient and enjoyable coordinators I’ve ever worked with. Her property is amazing, and her incredible work is the cherry on top! This property boasts several different ceremony spaces, has an overabundance of locations for portraits (including a bridge over a gorgeous pond, and an open orchard field), and also has one of the most beautiful reception barns I’ve ever seen.

Mount Gulian Historic Site

Beacon, NY

There is no shortage of historic sites in the Hudson Valley (we once had everyone from Roosevelt to Rockefeller living here), but not every site allows for weddings. With that being said, Mt Gulian does, and it is a great location for weddings.  Although it feels like a private hideaway for weddings, it is close to the highway, so it’s very easy for guests to travel to. There are multiple ceremony spaces for you to choose from - overlooking the river, in the garden, facing the trees. And, like the abundance of ceremony spaces, you also have an abundance of photo locations on the property that are all very easy to get to, all within close proximity to each other. The barn used to be a working barn, and so has a unique layout, but every guest I have interacted with there has been delighted by the novelty of the space.

Indian Ridge Preserve

Highland, NY

When you first enter Indian Ridge Preserve, you don’t realize what a gem you’re walking into. Indian Ridge Preserve is a sprawling property, with getting ready spaces for the couple and wedding party, and a cute wedding suite for the couple to spend the night in after the big event. Although the property is centrally located in Highland, NY (which makes it easy to get to), because the wedding space is inset on the property, it feels like a very private and special location. You are able to host your ceremony in different locations on the property, and the barn reception venue is spacious, beautiful, and exactly what you would want from a rustic venue. Photo ops there are numerous, and the amazing staff will drive you to all of the best ones - they know them all!

Old Adriance Farm

Staatsburg, NY

If you’re looking for a rustic wedding venue, Old Adriance Farm is probably one of the most quintessential ones you would be able to find in the Hudson Valley. It features a red barn (like I said, quintessential) and outdoor pavilion that is great for the cocktail hour or reception overflow - I have even seen clients use it for the dancefloor during their reception. You can also get ready at the farmhouse on site. Additionally, one of the most special things about Old Adriance Farm is the sunsets you’re able to see there. Because it sits atop a hill, it has a unique view of the sunset which makes for truly magical golden hour photos, something not every wedding venue is able to provide.

Crested Hen Farms

High Falls, NY

When I think about Crested Hen Farms, it gives me the warm fuzzies. It’s such a beautifully comforting place for everyone who gets married there. Like Old Adriance Farm, it features a red barn,  which is usually exactly the vibe you want when planning a rustic wedding! You have your choice of ceremony locations on the property, and for photos, have access to the barn as a backdrop, a few sunlit paths, an open field, and a stream.

Because it’s a private property, they accept a limited amount of weddings per year, so consider yourself lucky if you’re able to book a date there!

Hudson Valley Country Club Wedding Venues

I am sure there are hundreds of country clubs in the Hudson Valley, but I know that, of them all, the following venues are consistently amazing for the clients I work with.

West Hills Country Club

Middletown, NY

Tucked away off the highway, West Hills Country Club is a wonderful country club wedding venue. When you drive onto the site, you may not realize right away what a gem it truly is. But, as soon as you walk into the (heated and air conditioned!) reception tent, you will feel it. The tent is absolutely beautiful, with pretty draping and chandeliers, and the ceremony space next to it is perfect for outdoor nuptials. The West Hills staff is great, and they are happy to drive you out onto the course for your photo ops - some of the most popular ones being the main bridge (a replica of the Brooklyn Bridge), the highest point of the course which overlooks the valley, and any and every beautiful little spot in between.

The Country Club at Otterkill

Campbell Hall, NY

Like Rustic Ridge View Farm, the Country Club at Otter Kill seems to be a best-kept secret in the Hudson Valley - and if you’re looking for a country club wedding, I highly recommend looking here. There are multiple ceremony spaces to choose from, each allowing for nature as a backdrop. The reception space is a lovely non-traditional ballroom, with beautiful white walls and an open and airy feel. And, although it is a country club and golf course, it’s not too large that it’s difficult to get to different locations for your photos - for some, you may not even need a golf cart. And something that’s so special for your photos at this venue is that you have easy access to a willow tree - sometimes hard to find and access for photos. And who doesn’t like willow trees for their wedding photos?

Hudson Valley Winery Wedding Venues

Magnanini Winery and Two Hearts Vineyard

Wallkill, NY

When I think about wineries, images of California populate in my mind, but we have quite a few beautiful winery and vineyard wedding venues in the Hudson Valley - perhaps as much to your surprise as mine! Magnanini Winery features the winery location of its property, which hosts a small ceremony space and restaurant, and also Two Hearts Vineyard, which is the larger wedding venue. It is a tented location, with a big outdoor ceremony spot, and ample space for guests and photos - whether your group is small or large.

Brotherhood Winery

Washingtonville, NY

For years, Brotherhood Winery was on my bucket list to photograph a wedding - and with good reason. It is one of the most unique wineries I have ever been to. When you first enter the space, it almost feels like you are walking through a main street, but it’s really just that you are walking through the main walkway between the restaurant, store, winery, and reception space. It’s truly so cute. You can choose to host your ceremony almost anywhere on the property, and can then follow it with a tented cocktail hour and host the reception in a hall that feels almost medieval (my clients have called it Game of Thrones or Lord of the Rings-esque). The property is not large, but even so, you have plenty of spaces to take photos - and the owner will even let you sneak down to the barrel room for that classic winery photo op.

Nostrano Vineyards

Milton, NY

Nostrano Vineyards boasts what few wedding venues can claim: a truly unique and gorgeous ceremony space. When getting married at Nostrano, the ceremony space is under a large willow tree, where your guests watch you get married while sitting on custom wood pews. It’s an absolutely breathtaking ceremony spot. In addition to the ceremony location, there are plenty of other pretty things at this venue - the reception barn is large and spacious, with unique metal walls, and the vineyard is perfect for various different types of photos, especially if you can catch a good sunset there!

Industrial Hudson Valley Wedding Venues

Foreland - Waterfront and Bookhouse

Catskill, NY

The Foreland venue, nestled at the edge of the Hudson Valley and the Catskills, boasts two wedding location options in one - The Waterfront and Bookhouse. If you’re looking for artistic yet industrial vibes with a touch of the outdoors, this is your place! There are multiple places to host your ceremony on-site, it’s close to the Hudson train station, and there are accommodations for you to stay overnight if you would like. The team there is also amazing - you’ll be in good hands if you book your wedding at this gorgeous spot.

The Roundhouse

Beacon, NY

If you’re looking for a chic, industrial venue that is easily accessible from New York City, the Roundhouse in Beacon, NY may be a great fit for you. The venue is beautiful and spacious, with large windows that illuminate the reception area. You’re able to host your ceremony inside or outside, and can take portraits outside near greenery, a small waterfall, and in the quaint city of Beacon.

Unique Hudson Valley Wedding Venues

Hudson Hall

Hudson, NY

Of all of the places I have ever photographed, Hudson Hall has to be one of the most unique. Set in the middle of downtown Hudson, NY, it used to be both a bank and an opera house, and it is literally THE most fun location ever. One of the getting ready rooms features the old bank vault, and you can host your ceremony onstage in the old opera house, if you so desire (please desire; it makes my music nerd heart sing). Although it is in the middle of Hudson’s busy Warren Street, there are plenty of cute little spots to take photos around the venue, and the locals will cheer you on as you do so.

The Bird and bottle Inn

Garrison, NY

The Bird & Bottle Inn in Garrison, NY is an absolutely amazing place to get married. The inn and surrounding property feels like an eclectic storybook - think: your favorite weird aunt took a trip to the Shire and stayed to decorate. The inn itself is appointed with lots of clever art pieces and vibrant colors. The outdoor property is gorgeous, with a moss-covered building on-site and ample green space. The reception location is a tent directly behind the venue that is just lovely, and the staff are incredibly helpful and professional. And, you and some of your guests can stay for the weekend! A+++ for this venue.

Locust Grove Estate

Poughkeepsie, NY

I personally think Locust Grove is one of the best wedding venues around. It is sometimes overlooked because it is on the smaller side and catering is not included (there are so many yummy local catering companies, though!), but every wedding I have ever photographed here has been a dream. Because it is nestled on land that includes multiple gardens, hiking trails, historical buildings, and a scenic overlook, there is no shortage of where you can take photos. You also have your choice of ceremony locations on the grounds, and you can bring your pup to your wedding here, if you so desire. The reception space is connected to the on-site museum, which gives it a unique feel, and there is a hotel next door, which is super convenient.

Troutbeck

Amenia, NY

Troutbeck is a gorgeous historic property tucked away along the backroads of the Hudson Valley. You are able to host both large and small weddings here, and can also stay at the accommodations on the property. If you want to schedule a wedding weekend celebration, there are plenty of things to do here! Go to the spa, hike, enjoy the pool, do yoga, play tennis, eat at the restaurant. The accommodations on-site can likely host most of your guests, as the venue boasts many guest rooms and cottages. Your reception space is tented, and you have many different options for your ceremony location.

Whitby Castle

Rye, NY

Want to get married in a castle? You can - right on the border of the Hudson Valley and Westchester at Whitby Castle. While the inside has been renovated to be a banquet hall, the outside very much still looks like a medieval building. Not only does Whitby offer a unique setting to host a wedding, the staff are also so kind and easy to work with. Most couples take photos in front of the castle, but there are also some overgrown places on the property that are lovely for portraits, in addition to  the large willow tree on site.

Stagecoach Inn

Goshen, NY

The Stagecoach Inn is such a beautiful location. Meant to host smaller weddings, it has a lovely homey feel - almost like an upscale Airbnb. There are rooms to stay and get ready in within the Inn itself, and the main floor has multiple rooms for you to  use for various activities, including a sunroom and covered porch. It flows the way a home does, which is so nice for smaller events. The ceremony space outside is lovely, and although the property isn’t vast, there are multiple little spots to take photos on or near the lawn.

Neversink River Resort

Godeffroy, NY

Neversink River Resort is the perfect location to host a wedding weekend getaway. Its 550-acre nature preserve gives you and your guests ample space to relax and enjoy each other’s company - planning hikes, swims, yoga, and various other fun outdoor activities. The resort also has a gorgeous reception space on the water, lit by natural light, as well as accommodations for guests so that you can spend as much time as possible with all of your favorite people on the best day (weekend) of your life.

Hudson House River Inn

Cold Spring, NY

House House River Inn in Cold Spring, NY is an adorable place to host a small wedding. You can choose to have your ceremony inside the inn or outside near the waterfront, and then follow it up with dinner at the restaurant in the inn. This venue location is top notch, and you can choose to take photos either on Cold Spring’s Main Street, or in the park next to the river. It’s a perfect venue for an intimate event.

Revel 32 by Keepsake

Poughkeepsie, NY

Revel 32 is nestled in the city of Poughkeepsie, which makes it super accessible for travel, and also easy for guests to find local overnight accommodations. This venue is best for couples that don’t desire a lot of outdoor space for photos, but may be open to traveling elsewhere to capture some greenery, if they would like. With that being said, the inside is gorgeous, with lots of clean and naturally-lit space, a beautiful ceremony location, large getting ready area, and great ballroom that features a stage for live entertainment.

Buttermilk Falls Inn and Spa

Milton, NY

Buttermilk Falls Inn and Spa is such a cute and fun location to get married. There are multiple ceremony and reception spaces on the grounds, and you can also stay on site in the Inn, and even enjoy the spa during your wedding weekend. I’ve personally photographed weddings utilizing the tent, but there is also a barn reception space on property. Your photo options are vast, and can range from options in overgrown greenery to photos with farm animals.

Mohonk Mountain House

New Paltz, NY

I am convinced that Mohonk Mountain House is one of the most special places on the entire planet. It’s such a unique retreat of a venue, with not only the ability to stay on site in the wonderfully historic location, but also gives you so many different options for hosting your wedding. You can host small or large weddings at Mohonk, and both will feel exciting, special, and intimate. You have your pick of locations for your ceremony, and have access to just about anything for your portraits -  most of my couples like the various flower locations and gardens on site (rose, tulip, and wisteria are big for my couples), as well as the waterfront and trails that lead to scenic nooks and overlooks.
